A shell jacket is the outer layer that keeps wind, rain and snow out and lets sweat escape. It has no insulation, so you wear it all year – on its own in summer, over fleece in autumn and over wool and down in winter. Choose a shell jacket when it is raining or snowing, or when you need full waterproofing. Softshell breathes better and is softer, but is only water-repellent. It is best on dry, cold days with high activity.

Wash the jacket regularly with a detergent for technical garments and tumble dry on low heat to renew the water-repellent finish. If water no longer beads on the surface, you can reproof the jacket.
