Here you will find all our men's hiking jackets: windproof jackets, softshell jackets and rugged jackets in G-1000 and canvas. These are the jackets you use the most – on mountain hikes, in the forest and on your way to work – when you don't need a fully waterproof shell jacket.
We carry hiking jackets from Fjällräven, Montane, Arc'teryx and Patagonia, including Patagonia Houdini, Arc'teryx Gamma and Squamish, Montane Tenacity and Fjällräven Greenland.
Windproof jackets such as Patagonia Houdini and Montane Featherlite weigh almost nothing and fit in a pocket. They stop the wind and handle a shower, and suit the mountains and running.
Softshell jackets such as Arc'teryx Gamma and Montane Tenacity are stretchy, breathe well and protect against wind and light precipitation. They are a good choice for active hikes, climbing and ski touring in dry weather.
G-1000 and canvas are hard-wearing and handle brush, campfires and years of use. Fjällräven's G-1000 can be treated with wax for better protection against wind and moisture.
A hiking jacket is windproof or water-repellent, not waterproof. If you expect steady rain, you should bring a shell jacket with a membrane. Many people use the hiking jacket as their main jacket and keep the shell jacket in the backpack.
Think about what you do most: fast hikes and running call for a light jacket that breathes, while cabin life and hunting call for durability. The jacket should have room for a mid-layer underneath and sleeves that are long enough when you reach. In our stores in Tromsø you can try several models.
A hiking jacket breathes well and stops wind and light precipitation. A shell jacket has a waterproof membrane, such as Gore-Tex, and keeps you dry in steady rain, but breathes less. Many people wear the hiking jacket most of the time and keep the shell jacket in the backpack.
A windproof jacket weighs almost nothing, packs small and stops the wind, which is often what makes you cold in the mountains. It suits running, fast hikes and as an extra layer in the backpack.
Softshell is a stretchy, tightly woven fabric that stops most of the wind, handles light rain and breathes well. It gives good freedom of movement and suits active hikes in dry or changeable weather.
G-1000 is Fjällräven's hard-wearing fabric of polyester and cotton. It handles brush and rock, and can be treated with Greenland Wax for better protection against wind and moisture. The wax gradually washes out and must be reapplied.
