Fleece is the classic mid-layer: light, warm and breathable. It dries quickly, stays warm even when a little damp and is comfortable to wear. Here you will find women's fleece from thin jackets for running and hiking to thick, soft pile jackets for the cabin and everyday life.

Patagonia is the brand with our widest women's fleece range. Retro Pile is the thick, soft pile fleece, available as a jacket, hoody, vest and Marsupial pullover. Better Sweater is the classic knitted fleece for everyday wear and the cabin, and R1 Air is the light, breathable version for active use. All are made with recycled polyester.
Norrøna labels its fleece by warmth: warm1 is the thinnest and suits you when you are on the move, warm2 is an all-round fleece, and warm3 – such as the trollveggen warm3 – is the thickest for cold days. The Arc'teryx Kyanite and Rho are close-fitting and work well under a shell jacket, while the Rab Nexus and Tecton, the Montane Protium and the Helly Hansen Versalite are light, affordable hiking fleeces.
For running and high activity: thin, breathable fleece that lets heat out. For hiking: medium-weight fleece as a mid-layer under your shell jacket. For the cabin and everyday wear: thick, soft pile or knitted fleece. In northern Norway in winter, fleece works best together with wool base layers next to the skin and a shell jacket on top.
Fleece dries faster and withstands more wear than wool, and is a good choice when you sweat a lot. Wool stays warm when damp and smells less, and is better when you are out for several days. Yes, on dry, calm days. Fleece lets wind through, so when it is windy or raining you should wear a shell jacket or windbreaker on top.

Pile is a thick, shaggy fleece with long fibres, such as the Patagonia Retro Pile. It is soft and warm, and suits everyday wear, the cabin and as a warm jacket on cold days.
Wash the fleece inside out at 30–40 °C and skip fabric softener, which clogs the fibres. Hang it to dry. A wash bag that catches microfibres is a good idea.
