Fleece is the classic mid-layer: light, warm and breathable. It dries quickly, stays warm even when a little damp and stands up to a lot of use. Here you will find men's fleece from thin, technical jackets for hiking and training to thick pile jackets for the cabin, work and everyday life.
We carry men's fleece from Norrøna, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, Rab, Montane, Helly Hansen, Klättermusen and Fjällräven. Prices start at around NOK 800.
Norrøna labels its fleece by warmth: warm2 is an all-round fleece, such as the falketind warm2 and lofoten warm2, and warm3 – such as the trollveggen warm3 and femund warm3 – is the thickest for cold days. Patagonia has the Retro Pile (thick and soft), Better Sweater (classic knitted fleece) and R1 Air (light and breathable for active use).
The Arc'teryx Delta and Kyanite are technical mid-layers that fit well under a shell jacket. The Rab Nexus, Tecton and Ramshaw, the Montane Protium and the Helly Hansen Versalite are light, affordable hiking fleeces, and the Klättermusen Gimle and Fjällräven Kaipak are good choices for everyday wear and the cabin.
For training and high activity: thin, breathable fleece. For hiking: medium-weight fleece under your shell jacket. For the cabin, work and everyday wear: thick pile or knitted fleece. Yes, on dry, calm days. Fleece lets wind through, so when it is windy or raining you should wear a shell jacket or windbreaker on top.
It is Norrøna's warmth scale. Warm1 is the thinnest, warm2 is an all-round hiking fleece, and warm3 is the thickest and warmest for cold days.
Fleece dries faster and withstands more wear, and suits you when you sweat a lot. Wool stays warm when damp and smells less, and is better on longer trips. Many people wear wool next to the skin and fleece on top.
