For training: lightweight synthetic or thin merino wool (150 g/m²) that wicks sweat. For summer mountain hikes: merino wool that stays fresher after several days in the pack. For everyday wear and layering: a vest as a base layer is a comfortable option when you want freedom of movement in the arms.
