Mid-layer jackets are a key part of a layering system. They provide warmth without being overly warm and work perfectly under a shell jacket when conditions get tougher. Mid-layer jackets also work excellently as an outer jacket in mild weather.
Our range includes fleece jackets, lightweight synthetic insulated jackets and hybrid models from a variety of brands. Many are made from recycled materials and have pockets that are practical both on their own and under a jacket.
Choose a mid-layer jacket that works with your shell jacket – not too thick and not too thin. Synthetic insulation materials such as PrimaLoft retain warmth even when damp, whilst fleece is lightweight, affordable and breathable. For varied conditions, a hybrid model combining different materials is a good choice.
For conditions in Northern Norway, layering is the smartest approach. Start with a base layer in wool or technical synthetic, add a mid-layer for warmth, and finish with an outer layer that protects against the elements. With the right combination, you can adjust your temperature to suit your activity and conditions without having to change your entire outfit.
A mid-layer jacket is the insulating layer that retains body heat, worn between a base layer and a wind- and waterproof shell jacket.
Synthetic insulation keeps you warm even when damp and dries quickly, whilst down offers the most warmth per gram and packs down smallest.
