A parka is the long winter jacket that covers your hips and thighs. It keeps you warm when you wait at the bus stop in the polar night, walk to work in snow or stand still outside for a long time. Here you will find women's parkas from rainproof city coats to warm down parkas for real cold.

Didriksons has the widest range, with models such as Erika, Ilma, Bea and Marget. These are winter parkas made for Nordic weather, with warm padding and a good hood. Helly Hansen has the Adore Puffy Parka and Aria Long Parka, among others, and insulated raincoats such as the Hvaler.
For the coldest winter we have the Fjällräven Expedition Long Down Parka and the Arc'teryx Thorium XLong and Patera Parka. The Montane Polaron XT and Spirit Long and the Rab Valiance are good choices when you want a long, warm jacket that also handles the weather.
Think about the weather you will wear it in. Rain and sleet on the coast: choose a waterproof parka with taped seams and synthetic insulation, which handles moisture. Dry cold inland: a down parka gives the most warmth for its weight. Also check that the hood shields well from the wind, that the sleeves have windproof cuffs, and that the jacket is long enough to cover your seat when you sit.

Down gives the most warmth for its weight and is best in dry cold. Synthetic insulation stays warm even when damp, and is a safer choice on the coast and in wet weather.
