A small hole in your shell jacket or a tear in your sleeping bag does not have to mean the item needs to be thrown away. With the right repair equipment you can fix most things yourself – out on the mountain or at home.

For shell and down jackets: self-adhesive patches that withstand washing. For tents and sleeping bags: specialist adhesive or a sewing kit. For zips: repair kits with replaceable parts. A small repair kit in your rucksack can save the trip if something goes wrong.
Technical garments require a little more care than ordinary clothing – but give a lot in return. Wash with specialist products designed for the material, and re-proof shell garments regularly.
