Most of our socks are wool socks – and that is no coincidence. Wool, and merino wool in particular, keeps you warm even when it gets damp, breathes well and smells less than synthetic socks. Here you will find socks for mountain hikes, work, running, skiing and everyday use.

Merino wool has fine fibres that are soft against the skin and rarely itch. It is light, breathes well and suits everything from running to long mountain hikes. Traditional wool, as from Devold and Steigen, is often sturdier and warmer – a good choice for cold days and outdoor work in winter.
Lightweight socks suit running and warm days. Midweight socks with cushioning under the foot are good for mountain hikes and work. Heavyweight socks are for cold weather, winter hikes and standing still while working outdoors. The sock should reach above the top of the shoe or boot to avoid blisters.
Wash wool socks on a wool programme or at a low temperature with wool detergent, and let them air dry. Many wool socks can take a regular machine wash, but check the care label. Rarely. Merino wool has much finer fibres than regular wool and feels soft against the skin. If you are very sensitive, a sock with some nylon or a thin liner sock can be a good choice.
Cotton absorbs moisture and holds on to it, so your feet get cold and blister more easily. Wool moves moisture away from the skin and stays warm even when damp.
For winter hikes and standing still in the cold, choose heavyweight socks with good cushioning, ideally with a thin wool sock underneath. Make sure the boot is not too tight – tight shoes give cold feet whatever the sock.
