Mammut – Swiss mountain equipment since 1862

Mammut was founded in 1862 by Kaspar Tanner in Dintikon, Switzerland, as a small rope-making workshop. In the 1950s, the company launched its first nylon glacier rope, a milestone for safety in mountaineering – and from 1952 the company began using the name Mammut, the German word for mammoth. Today, Mammut Sports Group AG has around 800 employees in 40+ countries, is headquartered in Seon, and has been owned by the investment company Telemos Capital since 2021.

Ropes, clothing, rucksacks and rescue equipment

The range covers the full world of climbing and outdoor activity: climbing ropes, harnesses, helmets, ice axes, carabiners, rucksacks, sleeping bags, mountain boots, and a complete textile range for climbing, alpine sport, ski touring, hiking and trail running. Eiger Extreme, launched in 1995, was developed in collaboration with professional climbers and sets the standard for expedition use. Barryvox is a dedicated sub-brand for avalanche transceivers; the first was developed for the Swiss military as far back as 1969.

Sustainability and innovation

Mammut has been a bluesign® partner since 2011 and a Fair Wear Foundation member since 2008. The brand is committed to reducing emissions by 80% (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030 as part of the UN Fashion Industry Charter. Innovations such as LOOPINSULATION (insulation made from cut rope offcuts) and the Together for Glaciers initiative demonstrate how its environmental work drives product development. A natural choice if you want mountain equipment with 160+ years of Swiss heritage and a proven expedition history.
