Brynje is a Norwegian family business with roots in Larvik dating back to 1887. The brand is known for having developed the world's first mesh underwear – Wool Mesh – in 1921, a garment that was later worn on the successful Mount Everest expedition in 1953. Today the company continues to operate in Norway, specialising in functional base layers and mid layers for outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, the military and industry.

Mesh technology as a climate regulator

Brynje's system is built around mesh: open knit structures that create insulating air pockets against the skin whilst efficiently transporting perspiration away. The Wool Thermo, Super Thermo and Arctic ranges combine merino wool or polypropylene with the mesh construction. Thicker wool layers (e.g. Classic Wool) are used as mid layers, whilst specialised ranges such as Antiflame are aimed at users who require flame-resistant garments.

Built for defence and outdoor life

Brynje has a long history of supplying the Armed Forces and is used daily by hunters, fishermen, hikers and people who work outdoors in cold climates.
