Carpenter trousers with holster pockets have pockets hanging on the outside of the trousers, so tools and screws are easy to reach. They suit carpenters, electricians and other tradespeople. Work trousers without holster pockets are smoother and lighter – a good choice for service, warehouses, transport and property maintenance.
Modern work trousers often have stretch in the knees and seat, so they follow your movements when you bend and climb. Many have pockets for knee pads, which protect your knees when you work on the floor. If you work along roads or in the dark, you need hi-vis trousers to EN ISO 20471.

If you spend a lot of time on your knees, you should use knee pads. Most carpenter trousers have knee pad pockets, and that is the easiest way to protect your knees.
For cold days outdoors, lined winter trousers, or work trousers with wool base layers underneath, are the best choice. If you work in rain and sleet, you also need waterproof rain or shell trousers.
