Viking

Norwegian footwear brand for rubber, mountain and children's shoes since 1920

Viking – Norwegian rubber boots since 1920

Viking Footwear is one of Norway's oldest brands, founded 17 January 1920 by Peter Mathias Røwde with a rubber factory in Askim. From the very beginning, the philosophy has been to create footwear that enables an active outdoor lifestyle – whatever the weather. With over 100 years of experience, Viking has helped shape Norwegian industrial history and remains a pioneer in the footwear industry. In 2020 the brand celebrated its centenary.

Classics and innovation

Viking's early production included galoshes, gym shoes, rubber boots and later winter shoes, hunting boots and football boots. In 1969 Otto Schneider launched the iconic Cherrox® rubber boots – a cult classic that still has a place in many nursery school cloakrooms across Norway. The Seilas rubber boot from the 1960s is another much-loved classic. Since 1992 Viking has worked closely with GORE-TEX® to produce durable, waterproof footwear of high quality, and is today one of the largest suppliers of GORE-TEX footwear in Europe.

A wide range for the whole family

Viking today produces rubber boots, winter shoes, mountain shoes, sandals, sneakers, hunting boots (such as the Hunter Delux), and rain gear and outdoor clothing for children. The range covers the whole family – from the youngest nursery children to seasoned hillwalkers. The company has established a sustainability plan with clear targets through to 2030, structured around eight focus areas. Viking sells over 2 million pairs of shoes annually and is a trusted companion for Norwegians heading to work, school, the mountains and everyday life. A sound choice if you want footwear from a brand with deep Norwegian roots and 100 years of quality heritage.
