Trangia – Swedish camping kitchen since 1925

Trangia is a Swedish brand that has been making storm cookers and outdoor equipment since 1925. The company was founded by Fritjof Svensson and his son-in-law John E. Jonsson in the small village of Trångsviken in Jämtland in northern Sweden – the name "Trangia" comes from the name of the village. The company started out making aluminium household articles for local farmers and workers, and production still takes place at the same site in Trångsviken. In 2025, Trangia celebrated its 100th anniversary.

The iconic storm cooker

In 1951, Trangia launched the first prototype of the storm cooker – a complete cooking system consisting of a spirit burner, pots and a windshield that pack together into a single unit. The Trangia principle was a revolution in the outdoor industry: all parts fit into one pack, and the windshield protects the flame in demanding weather (hence the name stormkök – "storm kitchen"). The iconic Model 25 was launched in 1951 (for 3–4 people), followed by the smaller Model 27 in 1957 (for 1–2 people). The Mini Trangia arrived in 1994 and the Trangia Micro in 2023.

Spirit burner and a wide range

Trangia's brass burner has remained largely unchanged for 70 years – a simple, reliable spirit burner with 23–24 jets that deliver a steady flame. The range also includes gas burners, petrol burners, and pots in several materials: standard aluminium, hard-anodised aluminium, Duossal (stainless steel on the inside, aluminium on the outside), and Ultralight aluminium. The Trangia stove is used by scouts, mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts the world over – and is renowned for being virtually indestructible. A safe choice for anyone who wants a camping kitchen that lasts a lifetime.
