Vacuum flasks and thermoses since 1904

Thermos – the original vacuum flask since 1904

Thermos is the original brand behind vacuum-insulated flasks. The concept was invented by Scottish scientist Sir James Dewar in 1892 to keep chemicals at a stable temperature. In 1904, German glassblowers Reinhold Burger and Albert Aschenbrenner established a company that brought the technology to everyday consumers. The name Thermos comes from the Greek thérmē – heat – and the brand quickly became an international standard for heat- and cold-insulating flasks.

Pioneer in vacuum insulation

Thermos flasks have accompanied many historic expeditions – Shackleton to the South Pole, Peary to the North Pole, and the Wright brothers on their early flights. In 1966, the company launched its first vacuum flask in stainless steel, a design that has since become an industry standard. Today, Thermos is owned by Taiyo Nippon Sanso (Nippon Sanso K.K.), which was among the first to develop vacuum flasks in steel.

Thermoses, food containers and everyday use

The range includes classic thermoses and drinking flasks, Stainless King, King, FUNtainer for children, food containers in several sizes, travel mugs and cool boxes. Many models keep drinks hot for up to 24 hours and cold for even longer. A reliable choice if you want a vacuum flask or food container from the brand that genuinely started the entire category – with over 120 years of continuous development.
