Silva – Swedish navigation expertise since 1933
Silva is a Swedish brand established in 1933 by brothers Björn, Alvar and Arvid Kjellström together with inventor Gunnar Tillander. Together they developed the world's first liquid-filled compass, an innovation that revolutionised handheld navigation by reducing needle oscillation and providing more accurate readings. As early as 1935, Silva launched its first head torch, Zeiler, and the brand has since become synonymous with reliable outdoor equipment.
Compasses and orienteering
Silva compasses remain a standard in orienteering and outdoor pursuits. Models such as the Expedition, Ranger, Field and Race series cover everything from competitive orienteering to expeditions and military use. Many feature globally balanced needles that work in all magnetic zones, mirror sighting for precise bearings, and built-in magnifying lenses for map work.
Head torches and running vests
Today the range extends further: head torches with Intelligent Light technology (a dual beam adapted to how the eye functions in the dark), the Trail Runner series for runners, and the Free system with modular lights and batteries. Silva also develops running vests. A natural choice for anyone who wants to navigate safely – on the mountain, on the orienteering course, on a hike or on a run in the dark.
