Primus – Swedish outdoor stoves since 1892

Primus was founded in Stockholm in 1892 by F.W. Lindqvist and J.V. Svenson, who developed the world's first soot-free paraffin burner in a small smithy. The name «Primus» means the first in Latin – and the burner quickly became the preferred equipment for expeditions. Roald Amundsen used Primus stoves at the South Pole in 1911, and Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay brought Primus on Mount Everest in 1953.

Stoves, cooking sets and flasks

Today Primus develops outdoor stoves, cooking sets, flasks, lanterns and accessories for outdoor life. Models such as OmniFuel, ETA, Onja and MicronTrail cover everything from ultralight solo trips to expedition use. The stoves run on gas, paraffin and petrol – several models are multifuel and perform at extreme altitudes and low temperatures. The range also includes vacuum flasks, water bottles and cookware in stainless steel and titanium.

European production and quality control

After around 100 years in Stockholm, production moved to Tartu, Estonia in 1994, where Primus still manufactures its stoves today. Every single stove is individually ignited and tested at the factory before it is dispatched – a rare practice in the industry. The products are sold in over 60 countries, and the brand carries a wide range of spare parts to extend product life.
