Helly Hansen – Norwegian sea captain's heritage since 1877

Helly Hansen was established in Moss in 1877 by sea captain Helly Juell Hansen and his wife Margrethe Hansen. The first products were oilskin jackets, trousers and sou'westers made from linen soaked in linseed oil – a garment designed to protect sailors against the harsh Nordic weather, and one that won an award at the World Exhibition in Paris as early as 1878.

Sea, mountains and work

The headquarters is today based in Oslo, and the products are used by sailors, ski patrols, mountain guides and professionals all over the world. Helly Hansen is an official supplier to a large number of ski resorts and works with professional skiers, regatta sailors and rescue crews. Technical solutions such as the Helly Tech membrane and LIFA base layers have been central to the brand's development.

A wide range for outdoors and at work

The range covers sailing jackets, shell jackets, ski and freeride clothing, leisure garments and technical mid layers. For everyday use, wet weather or days on the water, Helly Hansen is a natural choice for those who want functional and durable clothing with a strong Norwegian heritage and proven performance.
