Norwegian handmade knives from Holmedal since 1932
Helle – Norwegian knife tradition from Holmedal since 1932
Helle was founded in 1932 by brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle in the small village of Holmedal on the west coast of Norway, north of Bergen. After years of working in America, the brothers returned home during the Depression and began forging simple sheath knives in their father's smithy. Local popularity laid the foundation for a global knife brand – today Helle Fabrikker is run in its 4th generation by Svein-Erik Helle and Jan Steffen Helle, with around 20 employees and production still at the same location.
Triple-laminated steel and craftsmanship
In 1967 Helle developed their patented triple-laminated steel technology in collaboration with a Norwegian steelworks. The blade consists of a hard core of high-alloy steel, encased in two layers of softer, tougher steel – the combination produces a razor-sharp edge that holds well, whilst the blade resists breakage and rust. Helle also uses single-steel blades in 12C27, 14C28N and Sleipner steel. Each knife goes through around 60 hand operations and is delivered with a lifetime guarantee.
Speiderkniven, Temagami and Eggen
Models such as Speiderkniven, Spire, Eggen, Temagami, Bleja and Fjellkniven are well-established favourites among hunters, fishers, bushcrafters and outdoor enthusiasts. The handles are made from curly birch, antler and leather, and the sheaths are stitched in Holmedal from Spanish vegetable-tanned leather. A natural choice for those who want an authentic Norwegian knife with genuine craftsmanship – designed to be used every day and passed down through generations.
