Dunlop – traditional rubber boots since 1888

Dunlop is a brand with a long heritage, with roots stretching back to 1888, when the Scottish veterinarian John Boyd Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre. In 1927, Dunlop merged with Liverpool Rubber Co. and expanded production to include protective footwear – and so the Dunlop boot was born. Today, Dunlop boots are produced at the factory in Leiria, Portugal, where over 4.5 million pairs of PVC and Purofort boots are made every year.

Acifort and Purofort

Dunlop has developed two unique materials that define the brand. Acifort is a special blend of PVC, nitrile rubber and polymers – the nitrile rubber provides a longer service life and better resistance to oil, grease, blood and chemicals, whilst the polymers add flexibility and comfort. Purofort was invented in 1980 and is a polyurethane material containing millions of evenly distributed air pores, making the boots extremely lightweight and thermally insulating down to −50 °C. The secret formula has remained unchanged for over 40 years, and no other safety boot can match Purofort in the combination of low weight and strength.
