Devold of Norway

Norwegian wool craftsmanship since 1853

Devold of Norway – wool expertise from Sunnmøre since 1853

Devold was established by Ole Andreas Devold in 1853, with a factory in Langevåg outside Ålesund. The company is one of Norway's oldest textile manufacturers, and is today one of few brands to have maintained an unbroken production of wool clothing in Norway for more than 170 years. The head office remains in Langevåg, whilst the fabrics are produced at the company's own factory in Lithuania.

From Blaatrøie to Børge Ousland

The time-honoured Icelandic sweater and the iconic Blaatrøia were developed in the 19th century for fishermen and coastal workers along the harsh Norwegian coastline. In more recent times, Devold has equipped a great many expeditions, among them the parties of Roald Amundsen and Lincoln Ellsworth, Liv Arnesen's solo crossing of the South Pole, and Børge Ousland's lengthy polar journey.

Merino wool, base layers and classic sweaters

The range includes wool base layers, mid layers, socks and classic knitted sweaters. The majority of the raw material is traceable merino wool from Tasmania, Argentina and New Zealand, purchased directly through the company's own wool trade. Devold is a reliable choice for anyone seeking warm, hardwearing wool garments with a clear Norwegian heritage.
