Some jobs come and go. Cecilie stayed. As warehouse manager at Jobb og Fritid, she is one of those who knows exactly how everything fits together – because she has been part of almost all of it.
Cecilie, you have worked here for almost 20 years. How did it start?
It started the way these things often do – I was just going to give it a try, she laughs. – But I settled in well, the colleagues were great and the job was more varied than I had expected. And then one year passed, then two, and suddenly it is almost 20.
Cecilie is one of those who keeps the wheels turning behind the scenes. As warehouse manager, she has an overview of everything coming in and everything going out – and she knows better than anyone that a shop cannot function without a well-run warehouse behind it.
What does the job of warehouse manager involve in practice?
It is about staying in control. Goods need to be received, registered, sorted and sent on to the right place at the right time. There is a lot of logistics, a lot of planning and occasionally a bit of detective work when something does not add up.
She smiles.
– People tend to see the shop floor, but a lot of the work happens in here. Without a tidy warehouse, everything grinds to a halt.
What do you enjoy most about the job?
Seeing the result of what I do. When an order goes out as it should, when the shop has what it needs and when customers are happy – that is when I know I have done my job. It is a good feeling.
She thinks for a moment.
And then there are the colleagues. It might sound like a cliché, but it is true. We have a good atmosphere here, and that means a lot when you are at work every day.
What do you think is the reason you have stayed for almost 20 years?
It has never become boring, I think. The industry changes, the range changes, the way we work changes. There is always something new to deal with. And I have always felt seen and valued here – that is not something you take for granted.
She looks a little thoughtful.
– And honestly – when you enjoy yourself, there are not many reasons to look for something else.
What would you say to someone considering starting work at Jobb og Fritid?
That you are coming to a place where people care. About the products, about the customers and about each other. Not every workplace can say that. I am certainly glad I stayed.
