Using the right fuel is essential for your stove to work properly. We stock gas canisters, petrol bottles and alcohol containers.
Gas (butane/propane): simple and clean, but performs poorly in cold below -10°C. Winter gas blends with isobutane/propane work better. Petrol (white gas): works in all temperatures, but messier to handle. Alcohol: clean and quiet, but slower to boil water. Make sure you have enough fuel – allow approximately 50–100 ml of gas per person per day, more in cold conditions.
For a week in the field, one person typically needs 200–400 g of gas or 0.3–0.5 litres of petrol – more in cold conditions and if you are melting snow for water. Winter gas blends with propane/isobutane perform better at low temperatures. Pay attention to proper storage and transport of fuel.
